Post-construction cleaning : The 5 essential steps
Share
Renovating is exciting, but the dust that comes after? Not so much.
Post-construction dust spreads everywhere—floors, walls, furniture, even the air.
Here are the 5 essential steps for effective post-construction cleaning.
1. Remove all large debris
Start by collecting:
- cement bags
- plaster residue
- packaging
- pieces of wood or plastic
Clearing this first makes the detailed cleaning much easier.
2. Full dusting from top to bottom
Construction dust settles on:
- walls
- trim and baseboards
- corners
- light fixtures
- electrical outlets
- cabinets
Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to trap the dust instead of spreading it.
3. Professional vacuuming
Use a strong vacuum, ideally a shop-vac or industrial vacuum.
It captures fine dust that regular vacuums can’t handle and prevents damage.
4. Clean glass & surfaces carefully
Windows often get tiny cement particles.
Use a gentle cleaner and avoid abrasive products to prevent scratches.
5. Floor cleaning based on material
Each floor type requires different care:
- Ceramic: warm water + neutral cleaner
- Hardwood: minimal water
- Vinyl: avoid harsh chemicals
- Carpets: deep extraction recommended
